Saying Goodbye to my 30s

When I was getting ready to turn 30, there was so much anticipation and excitement around it.  I had great expectations for what my 30s would bring.  Looking at my parents’ lives, I saw that their 30s were just full of great things.

Now, as I turn 40 it’s different.  I’m at peace and comfortable, ready to take on whatever comes my way.  But, it’s not the push feeling I had turning 30, it’s a much more graceful feeling.  A very happy feeling.

Looking back, I can hardly believe what happened in 10 short years.

Professionally…

  • My career advanced to new levels
  • I worked at the U of I, ISU, and a small IT company
  • I convinced Scott that if I didn’t start my own business at 35, I would never be content
  • I ventured out on my own, and now, 5 years later, am so thankful I did
  • I’ve learned more in the past 5 years than I ever thought I could or would
  • I’ve worked with many, many amazing business leaders
  • and I could go on and on.

Personally…

  • I had an amazing baby boy whose love of life is utterly contagious
  • I watched my oldest go through many lasts as he graduated from high school, then watched many firsts as he went on to college
  • My baby went to school and had many firsts
  • I’ve lost many loved ones and have gained an appreciation for slowing down and making time for the important people in my life
  • I’ve seen many marriages, divorces, and remarriages…and other beautiful babies being born
  • I’ve traveled to MANY amazing places
  • I celebrated 10 years of marriage with Scott with a great big party
  • Scott and I have hosted the Shooperbowl 10 times
  • We got a Harley, and then had to get one for Scott too
  • I’ve had friends come and go, but have had the closest ones stick with me all the way through
  • and I could go on and on.

It is pretty amazing looking back at my 30s in awe of all that I have done and seen.  Through the ups and downs, it truly was amazing.  I look forward to what this new decade will bring me.

Goodbye 30s, hello 40s!
